Description
Many testing situations involve one urgent sample at a time — an emergency case, a field site, a small lab or a quick confirmation run. Batch-oriented PCR workflows are slow and wasteful for these, and setting up separate extraction and PCR equipment is often impractical outside a full laboratory.
The AutoPlex-Mini is a compact, single-sample member of the AutoPlex platform. It combines magnetic bead nucleic acid extraction, real-time PCR amplification and 4-channel fluorescence detection in one closed instrument weighing only 6.5 kg. Load one sample and its pre-dispensed reagent cartridge, start the run on the built-in Android touchscreen, and get results in as little as 30 minutes, with multiplex detection of up to 16 targets.
The platform is open and compatible with a variety of fluorescent qPCR reagent systems. A solid paraffin sealing design closes the reaction during amplification to reduce aerosol contamination, and a HEPA-filtered airflow and UV sterilization function help keep the instrument clean between runs. When more samples need testing, multiple units can run in parallel.
How It Works
- Load — add the sample to the nucleic acid extraction cartridge, attach the PCR connector and PCR tubes, and place the cartridge in the instrument.
- Extract — the magnetic rod, fitted with a disposable sleeve, collects, transfers, incubates and elutes magnetic beads between reagent wells, without moving liquid between tubes.
- Amplify — eluted nucleic acid is transferred to 0.2 mL PCR tubes and amplified on a Peltier thermal module, sealed with paraffin.
- Detect — four LED excitation channels and a silicon photomultiplier read fluorescence in real time; results appear on the touchscreen.
Why AutoPlex-Mini?
Single-sample, rapid molecular instruments are usually closed cartridge systems: fast, but limited to the manufacturer's assay menu and per-test cartridge pricing. The AutoPlex-Mini gives the same on-demand speed with an open reagent platform, in a portable unit with its own touchscreen.
| AutoPlex-Mini | Typical closed cartridge systems | Conventional benchtop qPCR workflow | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Time to result | As little as 30 min | Fast, assay-dependent | Several hours including separate extraction |
| Reagents | Open: compatible with a variety of qPCR reagent systems | Proprietary cartridges only | Open |
| Workflow | Extraction + PCR in one instrument | Integrated | Separate extractor, manual setup and cycler |
| Multiplexing | Up to 16 targets per sample | Fixed by cartridge panel | Assay-dependent |
| External computer | Not required — built-in touchscreen | Varies by model | Usually requires a PC |
| Running cost | Extraction cartridge and standard 0.2 mL PCR tubes | Per-test cartridge pricing | Kit-dependent, plus labor |
Comparison based on publicly available specifications for representative systems in each category; individual products vary.
Need higher throughput? The AutoPlex-12 runs the same sample-to-result workflow on 1–12 samples per run.

FAQ
What does "sample-in, result-out" mean?
You load the raw sample in the extraction cartridge; the instrument performs nucleic acid extraction, PCR setup, amplification and fluorescence detection automatically, without manual pipetting between steps.
How long does a run take?
As little as 30 minutes from sample to result. Actual run time depends on the assay's extraction and cycling program.
How is the AutoPlex-Mini different from the AutoPlex-12?
Both use the same sample-to-result approach and open reagent platform. The AutoPlex-Mini runs one sample at a time and weighs 6.5 kg, for portable and on-demand testing; the AutoPlex-12 runs 1–12 samples per run for higher throughput.
How is it different from cartridge-based rapid PCR systems?
Cartridge systems are fast but limited to proprietary assays and per-test cartridges. The AutoPlex-Mini offers runs as short as 30 minutes with an open reagent platform.
Do I need a separate computer to run it?
No. The instrument has a built-in Android touchscreen for setting up runs and viewing results. Data can be exported via USB.
Which fluorescent dyes can it detect?
FAM/SYBR Green, VIC/JOE/HEX/TET, ROX/Texas Red and Cy5, across 4 channels (excitation 455–650 nm, emission 500–720 nm).
What sample volume can it process?
Sample volume should be under 500 µL. The qPCR reaction volume is 20–50 µL.
Can I use my own qPCR reagents?
Yes. The platform is compatible with a variety of fluorescent qPCR reagent systems. Assays may need to be adapted to the cartridge format; our team can help with assay transfer.
Are reagent kits included?
No. Reagent kits are selected according to your targets and sample type. Please contact us to discuss compatible kits.
How is contamination controlled?
Extraction and amplification run in a closed system with a disposable magnetic sleeve, and the reaction is sealed with solid paraffin during amplification. The instrument also has a HEPA filter and a UV sterilization function.
What are the power requirements? Can it be used in the US?
The standard configuration is 220 V AC, 50 Hz, 100 VA (max 100 W). The power supply can be configured for 110 V / 60 Hz in North America and for other countries' voltage and plug standards; please specify your region when ordering. A grounded outlet is required.
What operating environment does it need?
Indoor use at 15–30°C and ≤80% relative humidity, up to 2,000 m altitude, on a solid flat surface with at least 300 mm clearance behind the instrument.
Is installation and training available?
The instrument can be installed by trained end users. Please contact us for installation support, training and service.
