Description
Modified Reinforced Clostridial Broth (MRCB) is designed for the cultivation and maintenance of Clostridium species. Unlike the agar version of this medium, this product does not contain agar.

Formula and Preparation of Modified Reinforced Clostridial Broth

Preparation Method:
Dissolve 37.5 g of the powder in 1000 mL of deionized water. Adjust the pH to 6.8. Dispense into appropriate containers. Sterilize by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes.
To prepare a solid medium, add 15 g of agar before sterilization.
For Pre-Reduced Modified Reinforced Clostridial Broth:
Dissolve all components except L-cysteine hydrochloride in water. Boil the medium to drive off oxygen. Cool under an anaerobic gas environment. Once cooled, add L-cysteine hydrochloride and adjust pH to 6.8. Dispense under the same anaerobic conditions and sterilize at 121°C for 15 minutes.
Note
The Modified Reinforced Clostridial Medium sold by Biofargo uses the exact same formula as ATCC Medium 2107 and BD 218081, making it a perfect substitute for BD 218081.
