Description
Cyclospora cayetanensis Probe qPCR Kit is a research-use-only (RUO), probe-based real-time PCR assay for the sensitive and specific detection of Cyclospora cayetanensis nucleic acid — the coccidian parasite associated with cyclosporiasis outbreaks linked to contaminated fresh produce.
Purified DNA is amplified directly using a sequence-specific primer–probe set with TaqMan probe chemistry. During amplification, fluorescence generated by probe cleavage is monitored in real time (FAM channel), enabling detection and comparative analysis of target nucleic acid in a one-step PCR workflow.
The kit is suited to food-safety and method-development research — for example, evaluating C. cayetanensis detection in produce wash-off or environmental samples against established reference approaches such as the FDA Bacteriological Analytical Manual (BAM) Chapter 19b real-time PCR method. All components are optimized for research use; the kit is not intended for diagnostic or therapeutic applications.
Note: Supplied without internal control. An internal-control version can be customized based on your assay requirements.
This product was previously listed under catalog number 15-71400 and is now updated to BF-38651768 for improved product management.

FAQ
No — ROX dye is not included with the kit. We can add a passive reference dye matched to your instrument upon request for $25 USD. To request a ROX dye, please contact us for a quote at contact@biofargo.com.
Unless otherwise specified, internal controls are not included in our standard kits, but are available as an add-on for all kits at a surcharge of $150 USD. To request a kit with an internal control, please reach out for a quote at contact@biofargo.com.
Validation data may be available upon request, depending on the target. Standard validation generated from plasmid-based positive controls can typically be provided for many kits. Validation generated using the actual pathogen is handled case by case — it requires that we are able to source the pathogen, or that the customer supplies an extracted nucleic acid sample. Please note all kits are intended strictly for research use only. To enquire, contact us at contact@biofargo.com.
In clinical and outbreak settings, C. cayetanensis is typically identified by microscopy (e.g., modified acid-fast staining) and confirmed by molecular methods. For food-safety research, the FDA Bacteriological Analytical Manual (BAM) Chapter 19b describes a real-time PCR method for detecting C. cayetanensis in fresh produce.
This kit applies the same detection principle in a probe-based real-time PCR format (FAM channel, TaqMan chemistry), suitable for research laboratories running purified-DNA workflows. For research use only; not for diagnostic use. See the probe qPCR kit collection for related assays.
C. cayetanensis outbreaks are most frequently linked to imported fresh produce, including berries (e.g., raspberries and blackberries), fresh herbs (basil, cilantro), and leafy greens or salad mixes. For food-safety research, produce wash-off or rinse samples can be processed for nucleic acid detection with this kit.
Cyclospora oocysts are sensitive to adequate heat, and thorough cooking of produce is a standard food-safety control measure. Note that typical refrigeration or freezing is not a reliable way to inactivate oocysts — which is why PCR-based detection methods are used in food-safety research to verify produce and wash water.
Standard production takes 7–14 days, after which kits ship from our laboratory to our warehouse. Expedited production (~7 days) is available upon request. We also maintain a ready inventory of our most popular kits to reduce wait times.
Yes — we offer custom assays. Customization can include target, pack size, reaction volume, master mix format, and inclusion of an internal control. Pricing is evaluated based on your specific customization requirements and quoted accordingly. For details, please contact us at contact@biofargo.com.
Our kits use standard FAM-based probe chemistry and are compatible with virtually all real-time PCR platforms. They are validated and optimized on widely used systems — including the Applied Biosystems QuantStudio series — and run reliably on other mainstream instruments using the same FAM detection channel. If you let us know your specific instrument model, we are happy to confirm the optimal channel and filter settings for your setup.
Yes — we offer substantial discounts for bulk orders on most PCR kits. Discounts are available upon request through quotes only and do not apply to online orders. Bulk discounts apply to kits of the same type ordered at the same time, following this standard structure:
- 5% OFF (Qty. 5–9 kits)
- 10% OFF (Qty. 10–14 kits)
- 25% OFF (Qty. 15–29 kits)
- 35% OFF (Qty. 30+ kits)
For more information about discounted pricing, please contact us at contact@biofargo.com.
Yes — we ship internationally via FedEx International Express (generally CIF or DAP terms). All international shipments include ~40 lbs of dry ice, sufficient for a maximum of 7 days in transit. We can also assist with customs clearance (completing paperwork and providing COAs, MSDS, HS codes, etc.). A dry ice surcharge applies: $15 USD for domestic shipments and $55 USD for international shipments.
No. We do not ship qPCR kits on blue ice or at room temperature due to our strict quality requirements. This kit is shipped on dry ice. Kits may retain limited stability at room temperature, but should be stored at −20 °C for best performance.
No. All Biofargo kits are strictly for research use only (RUO). Biofargo, Inc. is not authorized to sell products for diagnostic, detection, clinical, personal, or any other non-research application. Use of our kits outside of an authorized laboratory research context is not permitted.
