CG 516 is a mixture of mono- and di- 2-ethylhexyl phosphate. It is a colorless clear liquid at ambient in its pure form. The industrial grades may be light yellow. CG 516 is primarily used as a surfactant. It is also widely used in lubricants and greases, coating products and fertilizers, inks, and cleaning products.

CG 516 is widely used in many industries, which include, but are not limited to, Lubricants and greases, coating products and fertilizers, inks and cleaning products, etc.
Manufacturing Process
CG 516, mixed mono- and di- 2-ethylhexyl phosphates, is typically manufactured by reacting 2-ethyl hexanol with P2O5. The reaction is exothermic and cooling is required to maintain the temperature. In most processes, excess 2-ethyl hexanol is used to drive the reaction to completion, and the unreacted 2-ethyl hexanol is removed by distillation.
Chemical Reactions
Like other phosphates, CG 516 may be hydrolyzed in the presence of water and an acid or basic catalyst. 2-Ethyl hexanol and phosphoric acid are the products in the hydrolysis.
