Manufacturing Process

Industrial DIBM, diisobutyl maleate, is manufactured by reacting maleic anhydride with isobutanol, in the presence of an acid catalyst, such as p-toluenesulfonic acid.

Chemical Reactions

DIBM is usually used as a monomer for polymerizations, such as emulsion polymerization.

Applications

  • DIBM is used as a monomer in emulsion polymerization with Vinyl Acetate, Styrene and Acrylates. DIBM provides excellent adhesion, flexibility and viscosity enhancement in these applications.

  • DIBM is also used in resin synthesis. It helps modify the properties of maleic acid resins, polyamide resins, polyester resins, and epoxy resins. It improves the adhesion, flexibility and cohesive strength of the materials in these applications.

  • DIBM sometimes is used as a plasticizer in some products.
