Description
CG 405 is made by reacting pentaerythritol with oleic acid. The formula of the product is C(CH2OOCC17H33)4. CG 405 has excellent lubricity, high viscosity index, and is biodegradable. It is widely used as a base stock in flame resistant hydraulic fluids and metal-working fluids. It is also used in many environmentally friendly oils due to its biodegradability.

Manufacturing Process
Industrial PETO, pentaerythritol tetraoleate, is manufactured by an esterification reaction, reacting pentaerythritol with oleic acid, in the presence of an acid catalyst.
Chemical Reactions
PETO is usually used as an end product in multiple applications, and it is not typically used as a chemical intermediate. However, PETO may not be stable under strong acidic or basic conditions, particularly when water or moisture is present. In these cases, PETO tends to be hydrolyzed into pentaerythritol mono-oleate, pentaerythritol di-oleate, pentaerythritol tri-oleate and oleic acid.
