Description
CG 403 is made by reacting trimethylolpropane with oleic acid. The formula of the product is CH3CH2C(CH2OOCC17H33)3. CG 403 has excellent lubricity, high viscosity index, and is biodegradable. It is widely used as a base stock in flame resistant hydraulic fluids and metal-working fluids. It is also used in many environmentally friendly oils due to its biodegradability.

Manufacturing Process
Industrial TMPTO, trimethylolpropane trioleate, is manufactured by reacting trimethylolpropane, commonly known as TMP, with oleic acid, in the presence of an acid catalyst.
Chemical Reactions
TMPTO is usually used as an end product in multiple applications, and it is not typically used as a chemical intermediate. However, TMPTO may not be stable under strong acidic or basic conditions, particularly when water or moisture is present. In these cases, TMPTO tends to be hydrolyzed into trimethylolpropane and oleic acid.
