Description
2-Ethylhexyl Phosphate is a mixture of mono and di-esters that finds applications as an extractant for the separation of rare earth metals, actinides, and lanthanides in the nuclear industry. It can also be used as a solvent in organic synthesis and as a plasticizer for cellulose esters. This product is supplied in a pack size of 25 grams and should be handled with care due to its toxic nature. Proper safety equipment such as gloves, protective clothing, and goggles must be worn when handling it. The product should be stored in a cool, dry place away from sources of heat or ignition. Environmental impact data shows that it has low toxicity but can cause harm if released into waterways or soil.

2-EH Phosphate is widely used in many industries, which include, but are not limited to, Lubricants and greases, coating products and fertilizers, inks and cleaning products, etc.
Manufacturing Process
Mixed mono- and di- 2-ethylhexyl phosphates, is typically manufactured by reacting 2-ethyl hexanol with P2O5. The reaction is exothermic and cooling is required to maintain the temperature. In most processes, excess 2-ethyl hexanol is used to drive the reaction to completion, and the unreacted 2-ethyl hexanol is removed by distillation.
Chemical Reactions
Like other phosphates, 2-EH Phosphate may be hydrolyzed in the presence of water and an acid or basic catalyst. 2-Ethyl hexanol and phosphoric acid are the products in the hydrolysis.
