Description
Eco-Stain, ready to use: DNA, single‐stranded DNA and RNA in Agarose gels. This dye replaces Ethidium Bromide (toxic, potential mutagen) for visualization of DNA or RNA in Agarose gel. Eco‐DNA Dye products are non‐carcinogenic and cause significantly fewer mutations in the Ames‐test, it also tests negative in both the mouse marrow chromophilous erythrocyte micronucleus test and mouse spermary spermatocyte chromosomal aberration test.

Features
-
EtBr alternative with a safer profile: Not classified as hazardous; non-carcinogenic and non-mutagenic under listed tests/criteria, while still delivering robust nucleic-acid band visualization.
-
Dual-signal DNA/RNA visualization: Green fluorescence when bound to dsDNA/ssDNA and red fluorescence when bound to RNA, enabling clearer interpretation in mixed nucleic-acid workflows.
-
Defined optical performance for imaging: Single excitation at 490 nm with two emission peaks at 520 nm and 635 nm—compatible with common gel documentation systems
-
High sensitivity for routine gels: Detects approximately 0.1–0.3 ng DNA per band (Eco-Stain ready-to-use).
-
Broad electrophoresis compatibility: Works in agarose and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, matching common EtBr workflows with minimal protocol changes.
-
Workflow-friendly & ready to use: Pre-formulated for convenient staining workflows; store at 4°C with cap tightly closed.
-
Lab-practical handling: May cause mild eye/skin irritation in susceptible persons—standard PPE (gloves, goggles) recommended.
Applications
-
Agarose gel electrophoresis: Routine visualization of PCR products, restriction digests, plasmid DNA, and genomic DNA.
-
Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE): Detection of nucleic acids in higher-resolution gel formats.
-
RNA analysis: Visualize RNA bands with red fluorescence, useful for RNA prep checks and integrity assessment.
-
DNA/RNA mixed samples: Distinguish DNA vs RNA signal more clearly (green vs red) in troubleshooting or QC workflows.
-
Teaching & shared core facilities: Ideal where EtBr is restricted and safer handling/disposal expectations are higher.
-
Gel documentation workflows: Imaging under common transilluminators/documentation systems based on the stated excitation/emission profile.
