Description
FGF-9 (Fibroblast Growth Factor 9), a member of the FGF family, is a secreted protein that lacks a traditional signal peptide sequence and relies on a non-classical pathway for its secretion. It primarily activates downstream signaling pathways (such as MAPK and PI3K-AKT) by binding to FGFR1, FGFR2, and FGFR3 (IIIc isoform). FGF-9 is involved in neural development, angiogenesis, skeletal formation, and the progression of certain cancers (e.g., prostate cancer and glioma). This factor promotes cell proliferation and differentiation, enhances the proliferation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), and maintains their multipotent differentiation potential. Additionally, FGF-9 participates in bone and cartilage regeneration and supports the survival and expansion of neural precursor cells. When combined with other growth factors, it can help maintain stemness and optimize culture systems for specific cell types.
