Description

RPMI 1640 medium was originally developed at Roswell Park Memorial Institute (RPMI) to culture leukemic cells. RPMI 1640 is the medium code and has since been found widely suitable for a variety of mammalian cells, even including tumor cells, especially for cell culture in suspension. It is now one of the most widely used media. RPMI 1640 medium contains many varieties of amino acids, vitamins and inorganic salts for cell culture. RPMI 1640 Medium contains no proteins, lipids, or growth factors; therefore, requiring supplementation, commonly with 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) or serum free additives.
