Background
LIF is a multitrophic factor produced by a variety of cell types, including T cells, myeloid cell lines, fibroblasts, liver, heart, and melanoma. LIF promotes the long-term maintenance of embryonic stem cells by inhibiting the spontaneous differentiation of embryonic stem cells. Other activities include stimulation of acute time-phase protein synthesis by hepatocytes, stinging differentiation of kincholinergic nerves, as well as inhibition of lipogenesis by inhibition of lipoprotein lipase in fat cells. Human LIF is active on mouse cells, being widely used to maintain spontaneous differentiation of mouse ESC, which does not work on human cells due to their inability to bind to human LIF receptors. Recombination Human LIF contains 180 amino acids with a molecular weight of 19.6 KDa, containing 3 disulfide bonds.
