Description
PDGF-BB (Platelet-Derived Growth Factor-BB) is an important growth factor belonging to the platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) family. It consists of two identical B chains linked by disulfide bonds to form a homodimer and is one of the most biologically potent isoforms in the PDGF family. PDGF-BB activates PDGF receptors (PDGFR-α and PDGFR-β) on the cell membrane, triggering downstream signaling pathways that promote the proliferation of various cell types—particularly fibroblasts, smooth muscle cells, glial cells, and mesenchymal stem cells. Additionally, in processes such as wound healing, angiogenesis, and tissue regeneration, PDGF-BB acts as a chemoattractant, guiding cells such as fibroblasts and pericytes to sites of injury to facilitate tissue repair. It also contributes to the stabilization of newly formed blood vessels and works synergistically with VEGF to promote vascular formation.
