Description
M-CSF (Macrophage Colony-Stimulating Factor) is an important glycoprotein cytokine that exists as a disulfide-linked homodimer. It plays a key role in regulating the proliferation, differentiation, and survival of the monocyte-macrophage lineage. M-CSF promotes the proliferation of monocytes/macrophages, supports the differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells into monocytes and their subsequent development into macrophages, and enhances macrophage survival through anti-apoptotic signaling (e.g., upregulation of Bcl-2). Additionally, it modulates functional polarization and influences macrophage phenotype.
