Description
β-NGF (β-Nerve Growth Factor) is a neurotrophin belonging to the neurotrophic factor family. While structurally similar to other neurotrophins such as BDNF, NT-3, and NT-4/5, β-NGF specifically binds to the TrkA receptor (high affinity) and the p75NTR receptor (low affinity). In in vitro cultures, it primarily supports the survival, differentiation, and functional maintenance of specific neural populations, including sympathetic neurons, sensory neurons (e.g., dorsal root ganglion cells), and central cholinergic neurons (e.g., basal forebrain neurons). In downstream applications, β-NGF can be used in combination with stem cell cultures to induce the directed differentiation of neural precursor cells.
