Description

CG 352, bis (2-Ethylhexyl) amine, is a secondary amine, with branched alkyl groups. It is a colorless clear liquid at ambient, with an amine odor. It is slightly soluble in water, and it is soluble in many organic solvents, such as ethyl acetate and tetrahydrofuran. It is used as the intermediate of surfactants and corrosion inhibitors. It is also widely used in personal care and lubricant industries.

Manufacturing Process

Bis (2-ethylhexyl) amine is manufactured via multi-step reactions, with 2-ethyl hexanol as the primary raw material. The most common by-products are 2-ethylhexyl amine and tris (2-ethylhexyl) amine. The purification steps may include distillation and washing steps.

Chemical Reactions

Bis (2-ethylhexyl) amine is a versatile chemical intermediate for many chemical products. It reacts with acids, including both inorganic and organic acids, to form ammonium salts, which can be used as surfactants. It is also one of the major raw materials to make triazole-type, including both tolytriazole and benzotriazole, corrosion inhibitors via a Mannich Reaction.
